Activity 3

Age/Generation: Being a teenager in a generation that is constantly adapting to new technologly we constantly want the new "it thing". I catch myself doing this more often than I should. However, I have tried to control my desire to want more and lower my use of technology.

Gender: Throughout history, females have been used for watching children, cleaning the house and making food for her family. However in today's society, women are just as powerful as men. I try to push myself to gain the same respect that men receive.

Race:As a Mexican, many people assume we came into the United States illegally. However, I was born and raised in Arizona and shake off all the comments I receive from people. Although, I may have always been a US citizen, the comments become annoying and hurtful. I try to inform others that making these stereotypes is mean and wrong.

Personality: When one thinks of an extrovert, the first thing that may pop into their head is the "popular group" that is always portrayed in movies. However, in high school there is not specific "popular" group. Everyone is friends with everyone and do not care for much about trying to prove anything. I have friends with many different backgrounds and interests. I enjoy having friends like this and encourage others to do the same because that way you have a large variety of friends and is easier to make more.

I believe that media images and public opinion are responsible for categorizing beauty stereotypes. For example, others may find other facial features or people more attractive than others. The media tells us who or what we find attractive. Over time, we grow to obsess over this and possibly harm us. Some people crave to look like a celebrity or have a specific feature, and go to great lengths to achieve it. One way they can do this is through surgery to fix, add, or remove something from their body.

Unit 10: Self Image

Activity 1

1. Age/generation
In my generation, we depend heavily on technology. We take many things for granted and do not appreciate it as much as we should. Also, being a teenager we want more freedom but at the same time have our parents take care of us.

2. Gender
Being a female has its pros and cons. Pros are women get to wear heels and sometimes use our looks to get what we want. However, the cons are periods, making sure we do not get pregnant, and guys thinking they can use us.

3. Race
Living with a Mexican background has its privileges and its issues. Growing up, I had to learn about the Mexican culture every single year, learn how to speak the language fluently, cook specialty dishes and how to clean.

4. Religion
I was raised with a strong Catholic background. My grandparents are huge Catholics and raised my dad to follow their ways. Being a Catholic, i attend church nearly every Sunday. It is nice to have a strong religion.

5. Class or caste
My family would be classified as a middle class family. My parents earn a fair amount of money but not a crazy amount to make us rich. The majority of our society is classified under the middle class, but many teenagers take their parents money for granted and abuse it.

6. Personality
I fall under the category of extrovert because I am very social and hate being myself and much rather be with people. I enjoy socializing and meeting new people. Although at times, I like being alone and not being interrupted, usually when I need to think or am in a bad mood.

7. Intelligence
With the encouragement and knowledge that I have of my grandparents' lack of education, I push myself to go further in education. I attend a public school, enrolled in honors class and honors clubs. I plan to go to a 4 year university after my graduation in May, and learn more about the world and to help improve society.

8. Political persuasion
I am mostly categorized as a Republican. However, I disagree with some Republican ideas and agree with the left winged side. But all in all, both parties have their ridiculous or smart ideas.
