Activity 6

Connect with someone new and create three environmental portraits.
At least one image should demonstrate how you have directed them towards a relaxed expression and body posture. Discuss the process of direction.

In this picture, the swimmer is in his natural environment. The detail in this picture is good because we can see water droplets and the splash perfectly.

In this picture, the tennis player is in his natural environment. We can see the tennis ball in motion, the tennis racket and the rest of his body is stopped in mid-motion.

In this picture, we can see the volleyball player in a relaxed happy mood. She has a smile on her face showing she is in a good mood.

Activity 5

Find one portrait image that has included significant or informative detail. Describe the importance of the additional information and how it is likely to be read by the viewer.

In this picture of the basketball player, we can see his enthusiasm. In the background we can see how excited the crowd is. The detail in this image is significant because we can clearly see the sweat on his body.

Activity 4

Photograph the same subject varying both the depth of field and focal length of the lens. Discuss the visual effects of each image.

 Great Depth of Field

Shallow Depth of Field

These two pictures that I took both demonstrate depth of field. The top picture shows great depth of field because the foreground in blurry. The bottom picture demonstrates shallow depth of field because the foreground is in focus and the background is not.

In this family portrait on the beach, the subjects are in the middle of the frame. The effectiveness of the design works because the background is calming and makes the eyes focus on the subject.

This family portrait taken in a field makes the family pop because their navy blue clothes pop out against the green background. They are in the center-right side of the frame and we can see everyone perfectly besides the dog.

This adorable picture of a father and daughter is set in rule-of-thirds. The green background makes the white on subjects stand out.

In this final picture the family is in the center with a camera angle from bottom-up. The little boy is in the foreground making the eyes focus on him more than his parents.

Activity 2

http://www.shalimarbphotography.com/gallery/portrait-photography/

This picture of the little girl is in the center and is the main focus of the image. There is a shallow depth of field.

http://designspiration.net/image/1600172421733/

This picture is in a rule of thirds and is in shallow depth of field because half her arm is not in focus.

http://designspiration.net/image/1600172277440/

This picture of the girl is in shallow depth of field because the background is blurring. She is the center and the vantage point is straight on which causes the blurriness of the background.

This picture is the same as the rest and in the center of the frame and in shallow depth of field.

Unit 13: Portraiture and Studio Photography

Activity 1

In this picture we can infer that she is a pastry chef based on the outfit she is wearing, the cake decorating she is doing and the kitchen background. The kitchen has pots and pans everywhere showing that she is a dedicated chef and a bit messy.

In this picture the girl is holding the goal, a soccer ball and dressed in her goalie uniform showing she is a dedicated soccer player. She has a serious face acknowledging that she loves the game and is serious about it.

This picture of a guy holding a fish is an example of rule of thirds, it shows that he is a fisher. The fish is big, so that shows that he is a talented fisher and knows how to find the big fish. His facial expression makes it seem as if he is excited, surprised and proud to have caught the fish.

This picture of the guy with his guitar is an example of leading lines. His face shows that he is passionate about the instrument but seems shy.

Activity 4

The below pictures are both examples of a fine art background photomontage. The artists of both pieces use multiple fine art pictures and edit them to create the final products. In the first image, the artist used contrast to make the colors and tree branches pop out more. In the second image, the artist used contradiction because the trees are floating in the air instead of planted in the ground.
If the first artist were to make a series of similar pieces, they would more than likely be the same concept except the colors and designs would be different. If the second artist were to make a series it would be similar with contradictions, messing with the viewer.
